Ten runners have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2015 Group 3 David Jones Cup (2000m) at Caulfield Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Stratum Star ($3.60) has returned to racing in typically slick form this time and remains outright favourite in 2015 David Jones Cup betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Fenway ($4.40) and Sadler’s Lake ($4.60).
Will Stratum Star justify favouritism and win the 2015 David Jones Cup or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
A Group 1 winner over the distance, Fenway carries winning form into the David Jones Cup, is positioned well with regular jockey Blake Shinn aboard and offers punters the best value for money at David Jones Cup odds of $4.40 for success. Returning this year for consecutive wins in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) and Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m), the High Chaparral mare produced an impressive start-to-finish performance to win the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) before placing second in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m). Having taken out the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) in style last start, Fenway will be very tough to beat at her pet distance on Saturday.
Hong Kong import Dibayani was unlucky to miss the final field for Saturday’s featured Group 1 Caulfield Cup, but is a leading chance for success in the David Jones Cup as a result. Debuting to Australia for a credible third in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) on August 15th, Dibayani again produced a great late turn of foot to run third in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) on September 5th before a luckless run for ninth in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) last time out. While requiring some luck in running from the outside barrier, Dibayani will be partnered by Hong Kong-based hoop Zac Purton in the David Jones Cup.
Stratum Star ($3.60)
Stratum Star has found exceptional form this time, but will contest the 2015 David Jones Cup off only a one week back-up and may find the talented field a little too great a task for success. Capping a strong autumn campaign third in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and second in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m), Stratum Star returned this time for third in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 26th. Having run on for third in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) last week, Stratum Star will leave from barrier 2 with Mark Zahra aboard.
