It’s Somewhat remains a clear and justifiably favourite in 2016 David Jones Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Maurus ($4.80) and Vanbrugh ($5.50).

Will It’s Somewhat justify favouritism and win the 2016 David Jones Cup, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

It’s Somewhat ($2.60)

It’s Somewhat has already attracted a great day of attention in 2016 David Jones Cup betting markets, and the talented Godolphin gelding appears as though he will enjoy an ideal run in the Group 3 race. A strong performer throughout his entire 2016 campaign so far, the Dynaformer gelding resumed this time for a credible fourth in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) before placing third in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) on September 17th. Having returned to winning form via a dominant performance for a five-length triumph in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) a fortnight ago, It’s Somewhat will also have to notable advantage of leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Maurus ($4.80)

Maurus is another runner that should be well suited to the conditions of the David Jones Cup, particularly with only 55.5kgs in tow and Craig Williams in the saddle. Winner of the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) most notably during the winter, Maurus clearly required a couple of runs to find form upon resuming this time, but will carry good condition into the David Jones Cup after placing second in the Group 3 JRA Cup (2040m) last time out on September 30th. Maurus has firmed from opening David Jones Cup odds of $6, but still represents good value at his current quote.

The Cleaner ($12)

Veteran runner The Cleaner has failed to live up to his billing since transferring to the care of Peter Gelagotis, but he should enjoy a step back in class and step up in distance in the David Jones Cup. A multiple stakes winner for Mick Burles, The Cleaner was unable to produce much when eleventh in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) first-up this time, and has since finished fifth in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) and sixth in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m). The Cleaner should have no issue finding the lead early in the David Jones Cup from barrier 5.
